Westlink M7 - Sydney Orbital Construction

The construction of the Westlink M7 Orbital Motorway along Sydney's west required the monitoring of some 19 intersections by the constructor. The Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW (RTA) also required the monitoring of these intersections.

Trantek Pty Ltd, supplied the video encoding and the control equipment to allow the motorway's builder and the RTA to monitor traffic along these 19 intersections. The IP network consists of 10 cameras linked via ISDN routers, and the rest linked to a 100Mb/s network.

The main control room uses a computer workstation running the VIDOS video management GUI. The workstation has 5 monitors, using one as the main control desktop and for video preview and the other 4 as full screen live video monitors. The RTA has an interface to the network that it monitors from its Traffic Management Centre (TMC) using their existing control system. The new cameras on the IP network are interfaced to the TMC video control system using a Trantek VMT-2 Network Video Switcher.
